Swine Flu and The Stand

Published by ravendarkblade at 11:29 am under Life In General Edit This

Hey Gang,

I don’t really want to get into the politics of this whole ’swine flu’ pandemic because I probably won’t shut up, but I was thinking about the ordeal this morning and it reminded me of “The Stand” by Steven King.

I am probably over-dramatizing the situation… but what do you expect from a slight hypochondriac writer? Seriously people, come on!

Anyway, if you haven’t read “The Stand,” I strongly suggest it. It’s a fantastic novel. Though, if you’re not into reading huge tomes, the mini-series was also admirable.

So, basically, this super flu sweeps the nation (the whole planet…) and people start dying off, but not in small amounts as with our Swine Flu problem… the people from “The Stand” were dying by the millions.

Though, there were certain people who seemed to be immune to the sickness. We’re talking a few hundred people–no more. These people began having dreams. They would either dream of an old woman named Mother Abigail or of a “Dark” man. The dreams gave them a location and beckoned them to go.

So, the remaining citezens began trekking towards one of the two figures from their dreams. Basically, Mother Abigail was a spokeswoman for god and the “dark” man was the devil in the flesh. They were gathering the remaining people to form armies as a war between good and evil was to be the culminating event of the novel.

It really is quite good and I urge you guys to check it out. My descirption is meager at best, but you get the point. I guess this whole swine flu thing had me thinking way beyond the scope of the illness. Oh well, it’s still a good book suggestion.

In other news, the April Book List will be up and running soon. Probably tonight or tomorrow. So, keep a look out for that…I believe there are 7 books on the list this time! Yea!

Until later…
